Career Sparks did a Q&A with Stephanie, a local New Hampshire LCSW, and are thrilled to learn more about her passion for Social Work and the Geriatric population. Stephanie recently started a new role with one of our New Hampshire Healthcare Clients, and we are so happy for her!
Q: What is your favorite part about your job?
A: Being able to offer help and support to older adults and their families as they navigate through complicated issues and concerns that occur later in life, including grief and loss, memory impairment, mental health concerns, and the challenges in being able to live independently. It is a fantastic feeling to be able to step in and offer help and know that is will truly make a difference.
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I enjoy reading to and playing with my 2-year old twins and exploring the Lakes Region of New Hampshire with my family.
Q: What is your favorite story about a patient or coworker?
A: Working in long term care as a social worker, I had the pleasure of working with a resident who was diagnosed with dementia at a young age. She was a joy to work with, and I looked forward to engaging with her every day. As part of her daily routine, she would stop by my office, sit in a chair, and chat with me about anything and everything. Afterward, I would walk with her up to her room, occasionally dancing down the hallway together.
In time, it became clear that she would benefit from the memory care neighborhood at our facility. These transitions can be challenging for individuals experiencing memory loss, and it was for this resident. I made it a priority to visit her daily and continue our tradition. To see the smile on her face when I would stop by would say it all, even when she was no longer able to remember who I was. It was an honor to be part of her life; she will forever hold a special place in my heart.
WE APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR DEDICATION TO YOUR CLIENTS AND FAMILIES. THANK YOU, STEPHANIE, FOR ALWAYS GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND!
